Hi guys we spoke about this many times. Many believe that small packers can still survive in this environment of technological monitoring by the USDA. Sure its possible but you either have to stay really small or get really big. Anyone in the middle is going to have problems. The capital it requires to implement HACCP and company Quality Control programs are off the charts. The Adams recall is a perfect example, not that I enjoy their problems. Been there done that and it is a night-mare when something like this hits any size packer.
What complicated the problem here is much of the products got sold at Farm Markets, where people come and go without any concern for food safety issue because somebody says it's organic and comes form a farm. I don't think they realize that farms are covered with ( buffalo chips)! In California they believe that Farm Market shopping is the best thing that has come along since sliced bread. That is until something like this hits.
