A federal jury in East Texas has awarded a former Tyson Foods employee a total of $2.2 million in damages, finding the company negligent and responsible for injuries suffered on the job, according to court records.
Asa Ferrell, an employee of Tyson's beef and pork plant in Sherman, Texas, had complained of three incidents that happened at the plant over the course of three years: Two occasions when he was struck by a loading dock door that was being lowered, and one incident in which he suffered a lower-back injury from lifting and moving heavy boxes in a small space. The jury found the company responsible only for the back injury.
The damages include pain and suffering, medical expenses, mental anguish, loss of earning capacity and physical impairment.
