British Labour Party Appoints Vegan to Deal with Farming Issues -

Vegan ( MP) Member of Parliament; Kerry McCarthy has been appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs under new opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn. According to her website, she has been a vegan for 20 years and was a vegetarian before that, and was the first vegan MP elected. -

Recently she wrote this paragraph (24 June 2015); In addition to concerns about public health, also raised at this event was the detrimental effect overconsumption of meat has on both the environment and animal welfare. Agriculture is a huge contributor to global carbon emissions and as the global demand for food increases, heavy dependence on meat will become unsustainable.

17 June 2013 from her website: A quote made by Kerry Mccarthy :We need to eat less meat - and the G8 should say so says Kerry. Instead of feeding starving humans, we funnel huge amounts of crops through the animals we use for food. G8 leaders must call for change at next week's summit, says Kerry McCarthy MP.

Any comments from our meat cutter friends in the UK!

Incidentally there is a slight difference between a vegetarian and a vegan; Anybody want to take a guess at it??

no big deal really they are in shadow cabinet. I saw a programme with the minister a few years ago being asked at a fish market what was being sold and he didnt even know which fish was which.

On the flipside there was also a minister for the enviroment in NI who said global warming was a global conspriacy orcherstrated by Tony Blair.

Ministers dont have to be knowledgeable or an expert in the department they head after a shuffle they could be heading up education.

Its not as if the woman can make a law restricting how much meat people can eat.

Id say most of what she would be interested in is not reintroducing fox hunting.

Yea, I know she also wants to band anti-freeze because cats like it so much. She's a bleeding heart but she has been at it for a time. I read news items of what she fights for  back to 2012/13. But its funny you mention fox hunting. Personally I think the 'fox is guarding the chicken coop", if you know what I mean. LOL>

I dare say she will go on about animal welfare and anti GM which is fair enough Im sure she wont be saying anything organic farmers use to promote their produce and why people should buy organic and from small local producers

If i was a vegan id be all for GM foods Id be looking forward to the day a turnip is invented that tastes like fillet steak.
