Is there any Weis supermarkets near you? I'm from the west coast so I don't much about the store other than The stock went up to 42.27 +0.55 (1.32%) so far today so they seem to be doing things well. We had some changes in leadership at Whole Foods and Sprouts and it seems everybody stresses about the case being perfect etc. however if you are doing what you are suppose to be doing (which you probably are) just keep trudging on brother and let leadership stress since they will be in more contact with the VP. Good luck Sir.
thanks greg our chain is a smaller independent in ohio 16 stores . so far the new vp is good to work with he was actually a meat manager for years.so its not alot of hot air from an old goat.he knows value added product and good shop conditions take payroll. hes taking the old leadership out of their comfort zone. so thats a good thing for us as a company. hes very pleased with my shop. but some hes been tough on.
I know that Weis is headquartered in Sunbury, Pa. I called on them when I worked for IBP. At that time they had their own breaking and grinding operation and did not want anything to do with boxed beef. Weis is an amazing company in as much as you never hear much press about them. They do their own thing, and train from within. They put stores in small communities within striking distance of big competition and they have been able to survive and grow their business.
Today they have over 18,000 employees and 165 stores. This is a family owned business that started in 1912Their CEO is Johanton Weis. However, they do put their trust i qualified outsiders to run the certain aspects of their business. Their ads are not spectacular and they don't try to underprice the competition. Weis always reminded me of the tale about the turtle and the hare. They might be slow in gaining market share, but they continue to grow. Right now they have stores in Pa, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and West Virgina.
Price Chopper's corporate name is The Golub Corp and they are located in Schenectady, NY. They are fierce competitors and are on a boxed beef program. Their meat departments may be one of a few that are well staffed with veteran meat cutters and their meat display cases are something to see. They still feature bone in beef as well as boneless sub primal beef. And like Weis they are privately owned. They have 135 stores and New York state is their largest market.
