Haggen prepares to make its mark on S. Calif. 
Haggen has opened eight of its new stores in California so far, bringing its model of fresh, organic produce and a more upscale shopper experience to the 83 former Albertsons, Vons, Pavilions and Safeway stores that are mostly in the southern part of the state. The chain boasts higher-quality meats and seafood than traditional grocers, but offers similar pricing and a hassle-free environment, Haggen officials said. Los Angeles Times (tiered subscription model)
