A victorious Team England clinched the crown at the European Butchery competition in France last weekend.
The team, comprised of Michael Perkins and Martin Crombie from Aubrey Allen, scooped the top honour at the event at the world hospitality and food service event, Sirha, in Lyon. The competition, which was organised by the Rhône branch of the Butchers’ Federation, saw Team England impress with a presentation of various cuts including veal rack, beef rib and lamb shoulder. The butchery duo faced stiff competition from French and Belgian butchers, but backed by English beef and sheep levy body Eblex, Team England won the competition for the first time. Rémi Fourrier, Eblex’s export manager for France, said: “This is another success story following the victory of English young shepherds at the World Young Shepherds’ competition. Now, Team England has received official recognition from the French independent butchers’ organisation for their expertise in butchery. It is a massive boost for the butchery sector in England and goes to show that, with hard work, skill and perseverance, anything is possible.”
