Has anyone ever had a knife like this before?? It's a Green River knife put out by Dexter-Russell, Inc. I been wondering about it since it had the guard on it, if anyone has ever had one tell me what you think about it.
Green River knives have been around for a long time 1830's I think. They made alot of knives for the whaling/fish industry. The straight wood handles got real slick, at some point they added the guard for safety. Possibly a carbon blade. I remember seeing that style in a catalog way back when. There is another example on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-J-RUSSELL-CO-GREEN-RIVER-WORKS-Logo-Skinner-Knife-w-Guard-Hunting-NR-/371223751200?pt=Collectible_Knives&hash=item566ea8ea20
