This is kind of a silly rant, but i wanted to know if this happens to anyone else. Sometimes a customer will stand right by me as i'm loading the meat case. I find it it silly and annoying at the same time. I could understand if they were helping me load the case but they are up on me trying to see the meat I'm putting in the case before anyone else can. It doesn't make me nervous but i do like my personal space, especially when loading the case.

Does this happen in other areas of your life, or only at work? Maybe they're attracted to you and only pretending to be shopping.
One time we had a thread sort of about this, but it was specifically for when we're pulling items, not loading them. We pull them, put them on a rack and then customers, not knowing what we're doing, will remove the items thinking they're fresher! In that thread, I asked does this happen to you too, if you allow them to buy it, or are you glad they took it?
Unless it's bad, and unless I feel sorry for them, or unless it's badly spoiled, I'm always happy that they took it.
But back to your question, no one ever really violates my space. Maybe they are attracted to you. I'm lucky. That doesn't happen to me. But they have shopped from my rack, fresh or not.
I was going to say the same thing. If they are male and they are getting a little too close to you. I would think its not about shopping and be wary about it. However, I too had that problem. When putting a rack of fresh meat out they would just encircle me like a group of cows around the farmer at feeding time. It really annoyed me. Not just because they were too close that I felt suffocated but also because I couldn't move freely around the case and get the job done. I remember being literally trapped and having to wait for them to clear out just so I could take a step in any direction. I actually got to the point where before I pulled out the cart I first checked to make sure that there weren't too many customers standing around. I think its hard for people who work in full service shops to picture this. For those of us who work with self service cases this can be a real nightmare. I remember when I first started cutting meat when I was 21 I didn't know anything and when these customers swarmed around me asking questions at the same time and pulling meat almost right out of my hands it was a very stressful experience. I actually had nightmares about it for a couple years. They are vultures sometimes. But as years went on I got better a handling these situations so it didn't get to me anymore.
