Rewards/bonuses at work

Does your workplace have any reward schemes at work.

By this I mean things like employee of the month or draws your name is entered into for helping customers.

What form is the reward in is it just a picture of you up on the board as an employee of the month or does it be cold hard cash or shopping vouchers.

A company that I worked for in 1984 gave employees stock too. 1/2 of 01% of their salary amount. But everyone got it. It wasn't a separate reward or bonus.

I don't like rewards for customer service or good safety records. The customer one forces you to do annoying things to them. You have to say hi to people who don't want to be talked to. You have to ask them stupid questions.

The safety thing sort of encourages you to not report injuries. I feel it does nothing to cut down on injuries. I was thinking of starting a tread on the no injury pizza party thing. But I wont now since I'm mentioning it here.  My current company gives $25.00 (store gift certificate) to one person in every department each month (or is it quarter?) if no one misse time due to injury. I have received the $25.00 several times. I shop there, so $25.00 store product is just as good as cash to me.  I think they pick your name out of a hat or something.

Some Pigs do 30 percent of gross profit minus labor so if you order 30 k and sell for 40 k it would be 3k minus labor for the week. Paid out monthly or quarterly. Sometimes manager and assistant split it.

I'm an apprentice cutter for Market Basket in New England. I am in a New Hampshire market. Last year my holiday bonus was $7,500 and three quarterly bonuses of $1,000 each.  Our pension is 100% contributed by the company. It is 15% of our annual income.

patriotsfan

that's a hell of a bonus, hopefully this continues for you- now that things are getting back to normal

10,000 bonus for an apprentice cutter?? no wonder you guys protested!!

it will be interesting , for the first time in years MB is operating from debt , MB has a great set up they owned the strip malls in which the grocery store was the anchor that brought in the traffic count for all the other businesses, and all the other businesses, paid rent to MB and essentially paid the stores rent also

for those of you who haven't heard of this
market basket is a chain of 71 stores in new England and in june, they fired a beloved ceo, and the employees banded together and protested against current new management to bring back the beloved ceo

so,, in every location employees were carrying signs by the road- telling customers NOT to shop at the store until (artie T, the beloved ceo came back)

well, after 6 weeks of protests, 2 governors got involved (big big family /shareholder dispute on the board of directors)
the beloved ceo offered to buy the chain for 1.5 billion
the stores lost over 90% of sales in all the 6 weeks, customers also boycotted the new management

it came down to the wire, there were rumors they may close 61 stores, but in that same evening,,,,they worked out a deal to the beloved ceo

ive never seen anything like this in 32 yrs in this business
and demoulas market basket isn't even union!!!

fierce loyalty amongst employees and customers, this is the only grocery store chain that was actually cheaper than Walmart on many many items

they pound Hannaford, shaws, stopnshop, again, being cheaper on most items- but again,,they were debt free, but now they are operating from debt-like everyone else

I never heard of such a good bonus for a meat cutter. Hopefully you also get a decent hourly wage, vacation, sick leave, medical, vision & dental care.

But I'm not sure if someone who'd root against Miami next week deserves it.

@mainemeatman
Thank you for your kind words about our Company. I do not think there is need to worry about our debt. Mr. Demoulas has stated on the record he intends to have the debt paid off by the new year. He will also open 2 stores by thanksgiving that are completed but haven't been opened due to the crisis. The business is very much back. The boycott ended Thursday, and since then the meat dept in my store recorded $275,000 in sales. That's only 5 days and we only have about half of our product. As far as wages and benefits go, as an apprentice I get $19.50 and hour with ten hours of time and a half a week. Paid holidays, 2 weeks paid sick leave. Three weeks vacation, blue cross blue shield insurance and profit sharing. All us associates love our company and our CEO so much and it's amazing how our customers stepped up and joined the fight with us. Mr. Demoulas won't hang anyone out to dry. Market basket truly is the finest grocer in the country and most certainly the best to work for.
