I've heard it's "the drought" and that we're exporting a lot of beef out of the country.

My guess is greed.

Basely Feeder cattle is the cause of the up & down, since around early 60's they can't keep enough of them, that is why the baby beef we use to cut disappeared, they began to use them trying to enlarge the herds. AN sometimes when things are right for it to happen " GREED " plays a part.
