Lucky’s Market will open its first natural and specialty grocery in Kentucky on Wednesday.

Bo Sharon, who founded the Colorado-based Lucky’s Market chain with his wife, Trish, said, “We imagine our stores as an oasis of health, kindness and support, the kind of store we love to shop in ourselves.”

Lucky’s offers organic, specialty and gluten-free items, as well as house-made deli items, in-house cured and smoked bacon, local produce, fresh meats and seafood, alcoholic beverages, a bakery, juice bar and a “natural living” section.

The Boulder, Colo.-based market plans extensive efforts to assist Louisville-area nonprofits.

Opening activities on Wednesday, for instance, will include presentation of $5,000 checks to Eastern Area Community Ministries, YouthBuild Louisville, New Roots and Jefferson County Public School Foundation.

The store, which will be Lucky’s sixth in the nation, will be just north of Shelbyville Road on the west side of Hurstbourne, in a strip center adjacent to ShelbyHurst, the former University of Louisville Shelby Campus.

Other special events planned for the Louisville store include a grand opening party from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 24. Activities will include music, and face painting for the kids, a promotional release said. Food will include $1 pork brats, $1 hot dogs and $1 beverages.

On May 25, the store will have a food fest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with local food vendors giving out samples, and face painting for the kids.

Five percent of the store’s total net sales for the day will go to three local organizations on three different days — Whitney Young Elementary on May 20, T.T. Knight Middle School on May 27, and Westport Middle School on June 3.

Shoppers reusing shopping bags will get a 10-cent credit on their purchase, or a wooden dime to place in one of the three boxes designated to three local charities. Lucky’s will match the total donations after the quarter is over for double the giving.

The three local organizations that Lucky’s will be giving to in the first quarter are: The Arrow Fund, The Center for Women & Families and the Food Literacy Project.

Looks good Andy, I was talking with our friend today. He was in our store doing interviews for the HMC position.
