It's funny how the cultures differ. When I was in the retail meat business we had to hit the ground running 5 am Sunday morning and if someone called out ant day, it could kill the entire week, so there was lots of pressure to come in and work even when sick.

However since I changed careers, the pressure is just the opposite in my new world.  They don't want anyone coming in sick and getting others sick.

As a matter of fact, we can't use white aprons, they have to be red as to not show how messy our job is, and then there is the CUT GLOVE! God forbid you cut yourself. I can't work with one, I fake the shirts out with a disposable cotton glove, they don't know the difference.

I agree with Leon-the show goes on no matter what! Two untrained  journeymen with no leadership while somebody milks a runny nose-not in my market

I don't mind someone coming in to work with a minor cold or a sniffle. If the employee has the flu, running a high fever, throwing their guts up, or running to the bathroom every 15 minutes then I would rather the employee take the day off and go see a doctor. I would rather be a little behind for a day or two then having a cutting room full of sick people (myself included)a couple days after.
