There are many, almost too many to list. My biggest one is people not rotatingthe meat in bunker display s versus the main line. It was real bad when we had a wrapper girl working for us but, she transferred out a few months ago. Another is someone telling me they worked the backstock from the cooler then an hour later I load up a cart and work a dozen plus items. Also, unloading s delivery truck and putting things up without even working them under the guise of the night worker doing it later. And also, putting meat I just cut into the back . If I cut it that means I need it out, no bullish*it. The unforgivable sin is
Poor Cutting quality in the case. My worst peeve is Top Sirloin and I find that one of my trainees have put the end cut out that looks ok from the front but is nothing but gristle under. I usually save it or take a picture of it and ask them if they would eat that or want it on there plate, and they have been trained by me and ive personally showed them not to do this... But alot to list backstock in all depts sets me on a tangent... Smaller store so I get in everyones buisness...
Let's not forget about the visiting meat cutter coming into your store and telling you how everything that you do is wrong and that they are a better cutter than you. Or even , a dairy clerk telling he could cut because all you do is open a box and slice it on the saw...
when you do someone a favor by giving them a nice sharp knife to use and they destroy the edge so bad with a steel that you have to grind off a bunch of steel to bring it back grrrrrr I keep saying never again then I let them do it again shame on me. Today I hid the steel hehe we'll see how that works lol
When I have two jack leg cutters that have been doing it 40 years each, but can't put product in the case right side up, they put the price label and nutrifacts upside down on product, and last but not least, when they price whole boneless pork loins and whole ribeyes fat side up.
Yeah I hate Smithfield pork even though my mother in law works for them I've even told her my 2 cents worth about their sorry products, it's funny she agrees lol.
I get the most irate when my meat labeler starts throwing tags all over my floor, or keeps miss labeling ,and i have to dig them out before they stick to the bottom of other packages. I also get bugged by my apprentice putting the grinder together with the blade the wrong way, and i go to grind and can hear it screwing up. then i have to disassemble it, clean it off, and resemble.
same wages as 20 years ago case-ready meat walmart
Well Said! All the complaints on this topic are good ones, but the wage thing makes the rest worse! lol I wonder what the total cost of living increase is for the last 20 years! I know there's a few things cheaper cause everything's made in china, but energy and health care dwarf everything else in my humble opinion. Everyone not in a union seems to think after the politicians put the final screws in the unions and they are a thing of the past all the sudden everybody will be better off... I don't think so
I was just having that conversation with someone last night about making the same amount of money i was making 15 years ago. I said I wasted 15 years of my life waiting/hoping that things would get better and now I have nothing to show for it. I said I am not wasting another minute of my life working for pennies to make someone else rich. and that person's reply still has me fuming. he said "You got to start somewhere" I started 2 decades ago.
