LETS GO SHOPPING ON MOORE STREET, DUBLIN, IRELAND

MOORE STREET, DUBLIN, IRELAND

Moore Street  is a street in central Dublin, Ireland, off Henry Street, one of Ireland's main shopping streets. The famous Moore Street open air fruit and vegetable market is Dublin's oldest food market.

Many Dubliners have a great affection for Moore Street, and especially its vendors. The market there is considered to be a famous landmark on the north side of the city. The people who work the stalls have a witty and friendly reputation; they and their food stalls are Dublin institutions; and they speak in a strong Dublin accent.

If you are planning to visit something "typical Dublin" you cannot go wrong with Moore Street - from Monday to Saturday dozens of traders set up their stalls, many of them specializing in meats, fruit, vegetables and flowers. Prices tend to be reasonable to low and the typical Dublin banter is free.

The permanent shops next to the stalls range from Irish family butchers to German supermarket giants "Lidl", with dozens of small Asian and African shops filling the gaps. Get everything from bratwurst to sea cucumbers and poppadoms in one short street!

"The Buckley Family has built a reputation as purveyors of quality meats for over six generations. Francis Xavier opened his first butcher shop on Moore Street in 1930 and this soon became a well known Dublin institution

In the chat room a few weeks back, Club member " moocow " told me about this street and I want to thank him for the link. it's a interesting piece of history
