Have any of you ever held any kind of work shop in your market??
Children’s Sausage Making Workshops
Good way to teach the young ones about meat
Brand new for 2013, Food Safari’s Children’s Sausage Making Workshops are a fun and unusual holiday activity for children – a real contrast to cupcake decorating! Let your kids get stuck in creating their own sausage filling – mixing meat, rusk and any ingredients they like from salt and pepper to garlic and chilli. They will enjoy filling the sausages into natural casings and then learning to link or tie them into even sausages to take home. While they’re in the butchery we’ll show them a side of traditional-breed pork and how the meat is cut and minced ready for sausages. Drinks and a few sausages we prepared earlier to eat, are included in the workshop. The courses run in half-terms and school holidays for children aged between 6 and 12 – morning and afternoon sessions. We ask that all children are accompanied by an adult.
Its in the U.K. I wish we still had that kind of interest for our trade here in the states. I have an open market and occassionally I will see a little kid standing by the case watching me work until his mommy pulls him away and scolds him. She probably says "You don't want to be a butcher when you grow up". I would love to turn that around.
