This is new to me, seems the story goes like this... Sometime ago Armour foods in Chicago used to make this type of canadian bacon, so I am told from a elderly Jewish customer. He claims that he called Conagra foods and was told this was a canadian made and sold there exclusively. What do ya think? anyone...
there is also a product called Back Bacon. Same as above but no cornmeal coating. Just pork loin brined and smoked and sliced thin. Good product for people looking for a low fat bacon
I had an old-timer tell me that he use to sell beef-bacon 40 yrs ago and it sold well....he said they would smoke/cure briskets this was wayyy up in northern maine ...close to canada, and he was french -canadien
i always thought canadian bacon was pork ham but i never really looked into it. I had a customer call once asking abou sliced beef bacon. i said nope. Not since the 1950s
I have actually tried a smoked beef plate before ( sliced thin and fried ) about 18 years ago. It was done locally by the hutterites and haven't seen it since. It's not something you see much of usually up here.
