ncchoicesnews, Extended Time-Sensitive: Local Meat Survey‏

We've had an amazing response to this survey- over 90 meat producers from NC and neighboring states have completed the online survey in less than a week! The responses have been very helpful to us as we plan innovative and highly relevant programs in the future. We've extended the deadline a bit to get even more responses- please let us know what your biggest challenges are and what you'd do with $10,000 on your farm!

All meat producers, regardless of species,  should take this survey. Beef and pork production numbers will be compiled for specific uses, but there are also two "open-ended" questions that apply to ALL meat producers that we are interested in your responses to.

Background
NC Choices has been contacted by an out-of-state meat processing company that is considering North Carolina as a possible location for a “further processing” facility. This company creates cooked and ready-to-eat meat products primarily for a national buyer who sources beef and pork from producers who raise their animals under high-welfare conditions outdoors on pasture and/or in deep bedded indoor systems without using added hormones, antibiotics or other growth enhancing drugs.  NC Choices wishes to provide this company with some basic information about production capacity of pork, beef and poultry raised in this manner in North Carolina. Should this company choose to locate to North Carolina, there may be significant benefits to the state’s agricultural sector.

This preliminary survey is designed to gather basic information.  We understand that this survey is just a beginning effort and that the results will provide only a snapshot of niche meat production in North Carolina.  Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Please follow the link below for the survey- this will take less than 3 minutes. Results will be compiled and submitted on June 6th so please click and take the survey today!
