Tick Tock: How do we get the job done it time?

There are days when things go smooth, like clockwork but then there are other days that make you want to pull your hair out, I am very interested in any tips that will make my job less stressful

this website has some good tips on time management

http://www.mindtools.com/pages/main/newMN_HTE.htm

do you come in early, stay late, how are you at delegating or is it easier just to do things yourself. does your boss help at all

my question to you all is:

what are your tips on how you get the job done in time?

Plan your work, and work your plan

A true team works together not apart, there's a lot in the mix here (productivity)

As a manager, I took the role of the runner/flex guy , I'd control the flow of productivity , until my headcutter was good enough at it, that I could back off, but Id show the crew what our challenges were during the day, what we needed to get done, and depending on whats on sale, I could be filling the sidecase, taking care of freight, or cutting for a few hours- I was a firm believer in bulling in the morning, and cruisin in the afternoon-
Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, a wise manager will exploit strengths, of the team.

The manager or head-cutter sets the tone of the dept. -if the department is a team, the team will jump on the slackers, because they will reflect the team-some departments, everyone was out for themselves, like a pack of hyenas,

A well run department will be a half/to full day ahead of themselves, this eliminates working off the clock,
the common denominator is being well-trained, and willing to be a team member, not a hero

Maine,

I really like your post.  for years 2 of my main expressions were:

"Plan your work, work your plan"

and

"Don't do as much as you can, do as much as you can do RIGHT!"

Sadly in my current career more often it is "All hands on deck, get it done!"

I much prefer the former.

Jim

Yes! Totally.

Roll out of bed and bust out the ole' seven petition prayer: Pater Noster qui es in coelis sanctifecetur Nomen Tuum... three angelic salutations: Ave Maria Dominus tecum benedicta tu in mulieribus... and the doxology: Gloria Patri et Filio et Spiritui sancto... and then end the day the same way.

Keeps the stress level low and the intentions pure.

Couldn't resist... an old Bishop Sheen moment.

Keep in mind that some people are just better at managing their time than others. Some people know how to adjust their pace as neccessary while others are just stuck in the same routine and can't keep up if the dept suddenly get slammed.

A few questions.....

1. When anyone goes in the cooler, do they ask to bring out any product for anyone else?

2. Does the "team" gain up on a slacker, because they know that individual drags them all down?

3. Are proper training systems in place?

4. When the store is busy, it's easier to switch up gears, but when it isnt so busy, does everyone slow down?

On days off, do you dread coming in the next day???

Do you have a crew of hyenas? everyone out for themselves, and rip others to shreds at every chance?

we have a four person dept. sometimes im working solo. we have no slackers in our dept. that said the company has policies and programs in place that prevent us from actually scheduling our needs.....we all get along for the most part. i do dread coming in after having two or more days off in a row though...............
