After 60 years, UK butcher hangs up apron

Butcher retires after 60 years
After more than 60 years in the business a Newark butcher has decided to hang up his apron.

Frank Pemberton, 73, of London Road, who owns Pemberton Butchers, on the corner of Cross Street and Beacon Hill Road, retires today.
Mr Pemberton learnt his trade at G. P. Smith Butchers on Stodman Street, Newark, and said from that day he has loved the trade.
He opened his own shop more than 40 years ago.
“It really is an emotional time because this business has been my life for so long,” he said.
“I have seen youngsters come to this shop years ago and now they are old and bring their own children.
“Meeting all the people I have in this job has been one of the real pleasures but you can’t go on for ever.
“I’ve had the support of the people of the area, all my customers, my wife and my four children — I couldn’t have done it without them.”
His assistant, Mr Derrick Cobb, 58, who is also leaving, joined Mr Pemberton in his business as a 16-year-old trainee.
“I am really going to miss this job,” he said.
The shop is being sold for redevelopment.

i notice the uk meat is lean as hell is that a preference there?........and confratulation on a long career........
