While it's easy to bitch, whine and complain at times,
what gives us the joy and love at what we do?
The job can be repetitive, monotonous, dangerous, and challenging- where is the reward?
For me, it'd trying something new, that may have never been tried, and it works
we are feeding customers, and to create/innovate a new item, is quite a challenge-
and to get feedback from the customers that will look you in the eye and say thank you, it was delicious, thats very satisfying- when they have a special occasion coming up and make it a point to come see you for that special order, is quite the compliment
also, to train someone, and see them do very well.
So, what do you look forward to everyday ????????????????
I definitly like hearing "The meat looks good" I don't get bored much. I enjoy what I do but it does get very discouraging sometimes espcially in the slow season (like now) It gets harder to push out meat before it goes bad. so when a customer comes up and for no reason says your meat looks good it really makes everything all better.

I agree, that is nice to hear.
In addition to that, I enjoy checking out the women who come into the store.
Doing my job so that I have a great looking case, knowing that what I cut will be on some one plates and they enjoy it. talking with customers to get their feed back on my case and cuts
Definitely seeing a full case/knowing that I'm making something that people (hopefully) enjoy. This morning the seafood lady comes into the cutting room, looks at us (totally different cutters from 6 months ago), and says "Now that all three of you are here, it's been a long time since the department has looked this good. I know it's the slow time of year and all, but it's really nice coming in to such a nice looking department. Thank you." Things like that definitely make the day go easier.
The last store I was at (they move apprentices/low experience guys around a bit), is considered the best department in our area, and we had the meeting for all the meat managers there last fall. So it's been cool for me to be a part of both of those, and hopefully have contributed to that. That store is high volume too, so it was always fun to bring out a huge stack of meat, and have the wrappers freak out.
Helping the customers that are truly appreciative, and setting a good looking service counter are always things that I look forward to as well.

I like having a full, pretty case. But I really just like cutting. Having the knowledge to take an animal, break it down and produce quality product makes me happy. Experimenting with new products and ideas are fun too. Samples from companies are great too!!! Watching the trainees develop is rewarding as well. I love the customer interaction...most of the time.
I like showing the customers what to look for in a good cut or piece of meat, or how to pick a certain piece for a certain application. They appreciate the time I take to educate them, and at the same time they can come in next visit and feel like an educated, confident shopper. After that, we are challenged to make sure we keep nice cuts.
i was thinking about this yesterday im up 7,000 for the week so far from last year....i been putting on instore specials ....to really drive sales........and another thing i love is when stuff is flying i dont mind putting in an extra 5 hours a day keeping my case full pounding out meat......i love watching what i cut fly and the compliments people give ...i like to cut think steaks and i love hearing like this is how it suppose to be from customers...gives me motivation!!!

1st, congrats on showing that growth!!! I can only agree with you. A long day is made better when you know your product is flying AND making the customer happy. You know you'll see that customer again and again.
the customers can put you on cloud 9 really appreciating your job, and a good days work-when it is busy in the store, many many customers buying- all cylinders are firing the crew is working hard, and the numbers will reflect a great day!!
