Delhaize Group said it will eliminate 5,000 jobs and expects revenue to drop 2.4%, as it closes 146 Food Lion, Bloom and Bottom Dollar Food stores in the U.S. and Europe. The company also will convert 42 Bloom stores and 22 Bottom Dollar stores in the U.S. to Food Lion stores. "Consumers continued to feel pressured in the fourth quarter due to the macroeconomic environment, and this led to a reduction in spending," said CEO Pierre-Olivier Beckers. "We also encountered an increase in competitive activity."
