Food Lion will close 113 stores, cut 4,900 jobs.

The company announced late Wednesday night it will close 113 under performing stores across the country and cut 4,900 jobs.

According to Delhaize's website, the closings are due to low revenue and an increase in competitive activity.

Delhaize has more than 1,600 stores in 16 states.

Stores slated for closure will shut down within 30 days.

Delhaize America will close 13 of its Food Lion stores across the Tennessee Valley.

Here is a list of the stores scheduled to be closed:

GEORGIA

  • Chatsworth - 505 G. I. Maddox Parkway
  • Fort Oglethorpe - 1800 Lafayette Rd
  • Rossville - 201 West Gordon Ave.
  • Trenton - 4645 Hwy 136

TENNESSEE

  • Athens - 1312 Decatur Pike
  • Chattanooga - 321 Browns Ferry Rd.
  • Chattanooga - 4850 Hwy 58 Ste 190
  • Chattanooga - 3201 Wilcox Blvd Ste B
  • Chattanooga - 3901 Hixson Pike Ste 181
  • Chattanooga - 3810 Brainerd Rd
  • Chattanooga - 7601 East Brainerd Rd

sorry for all those employees. I was with them from 1989-2007.  I am sory for my former co-workers.....

Worldwide recession hitting us all,even Tesco our bigest retailer have had a bad year,shares dropped 12.% which amounts to several billion pounds being lost on the stock market.
It's bad news out there chaps.

I worked at a food lion in Myrtle beach for a couple month I liked it there.

been there done that.....Farmer Jack did that to us, then eventually the whole company went under....just a matter of time for food lion too....sign of the times, I feel bad for the employess

Man, I just went through that. My company cleared bankruptcy last year and has now paid off all their debts. Survived all the layoffs, store closings, pay cuts and benefit eliminations. Now hopefully they'll give us something back.

Competition in this business is ferocious. You better figure out what you do best and do it better or you will be toast!
