The annual Meat Management Awards sets a benchmark for recognising excellence throughout the meat industry, not just in one narrow sector and includes the prestigious Excellence Award recognising an individuals contribution to the industry.
Below is two of theten categories that can be voted on, I have said many times on this site that the UK does a great job in promoting their meat cutters & their meat industry. I wonder if the USA meat industry will ever wake up and promote ours to make it a stronger industry and promote our meat cutting Trade or let us die out so the big packers can make the big bucks doing their pre pac with immigrants working for minumum wage in poor working condition. Makes me wonder if our future meat cutters are in safe hands.
Britain’s Best Butchers Shop Independent retail butchers can nominate themselves or readers can nominate retailers they know to be just that little bit special! Secret visits then take place and finalists will receive visits from expert judges before the accolade is awarded.
Young Manager of the Year We are looking for outstanding candidates who have achieved qualifications or made exceptional progress as a young meat manager. This can be through an industry scheme or via a business who wants to recognise the progress of an individual. Finalists will be required to attend an interview with a panel of judges prior to the Awards dinner in May 2012.
WHEN WILL USA MEAT CUTTERS HAVE THEIR TIME ???
It would be very encouraging to see the standards being set by USA young cutters choosing to make careers in our trade and the pride they take in seeking to excel both traditional skills and innovate new products.
We have a number of in store competitions, to name a few,
The Healthy Butcher's Top Butcher competition
Top Butcher Competition Whole Foods Market
And we have Cochon 555 Butcher Competition,
The butchers Guild Competition
Will our meat industry bring us together for one National Competition with differ categories ???
In Australia there are several state based awards programs. In Queensland AMIC [Australian Meat Industry Council] conducts 7 regional sausage comps with the winners going to a state final then onto national final. Each year in October a stae awards night for Best Shop in Qld.,Apprentice of Year, Retail Excellence, Customer Service. March 27th there will be an Trans Tasman competition with 5 New Zealand butchers competing against 5 Aussies. This comp includes breaking a side of beef and a lamb slicing and presenting as a window display and must include value adding.
Yes ,these people keep sending me e-mail and post ,to encourage shops and companies to join there sceems. Trust me when I say it's a load of rubbish. I have a few of these competions under my belt, yet has never got me far, Most of the time you'll get a certiificate to say how clever you are ,but I don't think anyone gives a danm. I suppose it's a goverment incentive to up-grade the meat industry in the publics eyes, and yes promote the industry I agree. But the crass roots of this industry starts, and always has ,with the Butchers shop,I don't mean supermarkets, the high street shop is where it all started. Take for instance this shop I have, before me the last butcher had owned this shop for 240+years,there was a slaughter house behind, with ajoining fields ,where the butcher would field his stock, therefore the old saying from gate to plate came about. What I would like to say is too long winded so I cut this short.
