Alto Young Butcher & RMITO Butcher Apprentice of the Year

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The Alto Young Butcher & RMITO Butcher Apprentice of the Year is a prestigious event well regarded by the retail meat trade and the titles are highly sought after by competitors.

The competition has been running for three decades and begins with five regional competitions where entrants have to sit an exam, undertake an interview and do a practical cutting test.

The winning young butcher and apprentice competitor from each region then goes onto the Grand Final where they have to undertake the same testing process, with the addition of an on-stage element and a costing for the Alto Young Butcher finalists.

The Grand Final is staged in Auckland as part of a black tie dinner which is a highlight on the industry calendar.
