Run as fast as you can boy!!!! No seriously now Do not say you are going to do anything Do it first Listen to the advice of others and learn which ones to follow God gave you one mouth and two ears so listen twice as much as you talk Look at everything you are throwing away or marking down and order less of that stuff Keep your cooler inventory as low as you can!! Truck to shelf!! The less you have on hand the less your cutters will cut and the more they will merchandise

I could write a long list but here are a couple basic things you should do now.
have you store manager run a movement report for this time last year and look at your top 20 items .Never run out of these items. these are obviosly item your customers want to buy.
Start planning now for the up coming holidays. you can never be too prepared for the big holidays. after each holiday comes to an end take notes on what worked and what did not work, were you stuck with product or did you run short. This will be a big help for next year.
Never run out of ad items. Keep them full, and well signed so the customer can find them. customers hate to look for hidden sale items. Be pro active if you are running short on an ad item. try to get more before you run out.
I guess the last thing is to coach your employees on superior customer service. Make it a priority for them to greet each customer with a smile and a friendly greeting. Try not to let the customer greet you first. Try to avoid telling a customer "no". Do all you can to exceed their expectations.
new to the club and just got my own meatmarket any helpfull advice??
If you're managing a meat department in a large store, and not your own little shop somewhere:
Unless you took the job for the better shifts, or have a mental need to tell others what to do, or you can't take orders, step down
If you're not gonna step down:
Don't be a hypocrite. Don't be a "do as I say not as I do" kind of person. Show the crew that you're willing to do any job. Don't be a "clipboard queen" all the time. Do some real work (I know that's impossible in some places).
If you're a reasonable and fair manager, your crew may still complain. Don't worry about it. Remember one of my favorite quotes
"I can't tell you the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to make everyone happy"
A quick google search gives Bill Cosby credit for the quote. I'm pretty sure he wasn't the first to say it.

Don't throw nothing away! Perform cutting tests regularly. Don't regrind too much. Track your loss. Maximize your ad items. If it's in your capacity, make good buys and work with vendors/distributors personally. Don't throw nothing away!
Use Scan Data. This will tell you how many units you sold from the dates you choose to look up. Always keep your cases fresh and dry, peopledont like to buy bloody packages. And like everyone else said stay clean and organized. Always be Fair,Friendly, and Firm.
