When I was in the restaurant business I was a training manager the newbies had an easy schedule to begin with until their third week then they got longer and longer days on that first 12+ hour day I would strike They would be closing with me and I would send them out with a 5 gallon pail of water to go water the plants in the dining room around 11 pm I would tell them it was important they got everyone When they were almost done, this is 4-5 pails of water later, I would ask them if they were doing a good job they all said yes sir I am getting everyone then I would strike Why don't you feel the leaves of that plant?? Then they would realize all the plants were fake and they had just got played I would also send them downstairs to fill the water fountain and out to get a left handed knife for our new cook
I guess the profession has changed but I haven't
it hasnt changed in my store....we work hard and **** around harder..lol...this job would be boreing if you did do this stuff.........ever call in sick from the payphone in front of the store i use to do that every couple weeks..lol
That is awesome. Very good. We used to send newbies to the back room in search of the 'basement'. I always told them we were out of large bags. I'd give them a stack of small paper bags and tell them they needed to go to the basement in the backroom and use the sack stretcher to stretch the small bags into large bags. I'd say: "If you can't find the basement ask the backroom guys. They'll tell you what to do." It was fun.

I called from my Cell Phone in the Bakery to tell my Apprentice I was going to have to reschedule his Journeyman test. He came in on his day off to do it
I kept walking until I could see first the disappoint in his face, followed by the anger that he gave up a day off, followed by the anger as he saw me standing in front of the service case laughing my butt off

My closing clerk called in sick one night. I called a different clerk and told him he was late for work. He swore he wasn't scheduled that night but he'd be right in. He came in all worked up, went straight to the posted schedule and started shaking his head. He was on the schedule to close that night. Somebody may have changed it.
a few years ago like 10 of us pitched in and had a male stripper go to the store managers house..lol......we never told him it was us hes a big homophob he was pissed.............my boss now me and my cutter we took all his office chairs and desk outta his offices and put lawn chairs and a plastic patio table with an umbrella in his office..........just happened that was the day company showed up....lmfao.........he was so pissed and embarressed........i got in alotta trouble for that one but it was worth it
I filled his top desk drawer with cheerios, put it upside down he came back, went upstairs to work on the schedule, open the drawer and got a lap full of cereal
He also had a obsession with having 4 carts in the department and would spend hours looking for them if they were not there I would shrink wrap them together in the cooler for him so he could go right to work

my old manager loved to keep the trays full ...so the day before he was supposed to come back from vacation i packed them all on the shelf all the way to ceiling so tight against the ceiling so he wouldn't beable to get them off unless he pried hard....i think i ruined his day he was pretty pissed at me for that.
also same manager..good guy but a control freak.. he didn't like to let the rest of us cut meat when he was there...so if we needed him for something but didn't know where he was we would just turn on the band saw and he would come running like "who the hell is cutting meat in there!"
