Being in the same boat as A1butcher not a lot of retail..HOWEVER...Doing custom cause with some *special ones* considering the orders are taken by people with NO meat experience from people with NO IDEA themselves...This week..Couple brought in an animal for cut n slaughter and were giving thier cutting instruction JUST as I happened into the office...#1 we'd like pouter house stks...(person taking the order THANKFULLY asked me if we cut those lol) I had to explain how a short loin breaks down...#2 we'd like tony roma ribs...(i had to walk away to keep from telling them well...Tony Roma's is located here) when I got the card it did infact say..short ribs-tony roma's...RRRRRRRRight...
First of the month the welfare hog are out in force , they just ask is that all u got bring more my buggy is not full . One welfare hog gets us to grind him ribeyes first of the month, another welfare hog , she wants 25 lbs of Snow crabs , another wants 15 lbs of Fillets , another gets 250 bucks worth of Strip steaks cut 2 in thick and wrapped two to the pkg. I am sure we are not the only ones that get this first of the month. So I will say a prayer for all you overworked meat cutters each first of the month.
Most irritating " Can I get 75 Chuck-eye steaks 1 and a half in. thick, by noon! " Lol I only had 3 cs. of chuckrolls in the back, you get what 2-3 nice chuck-eyes off each roll. so 27 maybe, had to say no, hate doing that but did not need any roasts or steaks, or stew, or even grind for that matter. Very irritating.
ain't no way i would ever take an order for chuck eye steaks but i would recommend just chuck steak. i have noticed alot of people think chuck steak is chuck eye steak. i often see chuck steak labeled as chuck eye in other stores..NOT MINE, of course at that thick it would be chuck roast

I guess its my turn.. I didn't really have a specific irritating question but I did have alot of pretty rude customers this weekend and I have been pissy the last couple days but thats just the out of town people coming up for the holiday weekend ..f... them. I however had this one lady ..i got interrupted on my break..she wanted four whole strips sliced. not trimmed at all..she said it makes it taste better. I said oh yeah thats what I tell people. I liked this lady. I just sliced it up and gave them back to her. 15minutes later she comes back ..this time she wants a whole ribeye..asks me how thick she should have me cut it for her. I said ma'am I can give it to you thick if you want. ..she was kind of cute too...saw her again this morning but she didn't ask me to cut anything ...hope to see her again
Mine was not this weekend but I had a customer wanted a 8 oz sirloin cut 2 inches thick. I tried repeatly to make him understand that was not going to happen with the steaks he was wanting and I even weighed them to show him. He was getting really mad so I just cut one and then cut it 3 pieces. I was trying to talk him into a Sirloin filet that I could cut thick and get it 8 onces but he decided to yell at me. After I was done he must have felt bad and then he was nice and I was able to explain it to him so when he asked again he knew what to ask for. I think he forgot his bipolar meds that day or something! Anyway thats just one of many stupid questions you hear in our line of work.
yeah femalecutter thats what i had been so pissy about this weekend...customers who think they know what they are talking about and we don't. I had customers stand there and watch me cut their strips and hollar that i am doing it wrong..and I had a lady just walk away while i was cutting her strip and then the manager came back and told me she went up front to complain that i was cutting her strip wrong. ..for some reason she thought I was taking ALL the fat off it when really i was just taking the cord of the edge . i mean you can't even chew that I wouldn't be doing my job right if I didn't take that off. I was really PISSED off about that. all she had to do was ask me to leave that on instead she thought she should go to manager and try to get me fired. I had customers tell me they want it an inch and a half then when they see how thick that is they start hollering I said an inch and half!!! these people don't know what they are talking about or asking for and we the experienced cutters here do but they don't see it that way..if they are so good why do they need us to cut it for them? good grief.......I think it was leon who said some time ago if you let your customers think they know more than you do you are in big trouble . yeah right the customer is always right my ass. I hope leon and the other seasoned vets will share with us how they handled this kind of crap where the customer knows it all.come on don't say you just smiled and said SURE...tell me you threw it at him or something cause that what i wanted to do.
I had a sarcastic ******* ask me where the good steaks are a couple weeks ago right after i finished filling the case there was nothing but fresh meat in there...i just said right there in front of you.

Friday: Customer pointed to a whole turkey wrapped in retail packaging and said, "I will have a pound of that." I was literally speechless for a bit, but then kindly explained that I have turkey parts in the next showcase, and asked what he was looking for. Turns out it was sliced turkey breast for sandwiches, so I steered him to the deli.
Sunday: "Can I please have 5 chicken tenderloins." I wrapped them up and then he asked if that will feed 6. I asked him how many chicken fingers he can eat in a sitting, and he said 4-5. I kindly responded that he was covered, but his guests might be a little hungry. He got 2 more.
we keep a ruler by the slicer just for that purpose......
anybody ever have a customer tell them to cut some thing a "good" inch? honestly an inch is an inch people. if its more or less it isnt an inch.
