FOR THE OLD HEADS HERE !!

alive this brings something to this old mind lol ( I know thats strange )

this guy couldn't keep up with meat cutters during the late 50's to the early 80's in most markets I worked and the reason is, during that time almost every cutter & meat wrapper I ever worked with took women's diet pills to work off of.

I have worked markets where in the morning when you came in, the market manager would past out one or two of these pills to each worker that wanted one.. in mins you would be wanting to do nothing but cut meat or wrap it. Get mad because they wanted to close the store at 7 pm or 9. ( store hours back then ) one of these little pills would make you work twice your normal speed for a good 4 to 6 hours, you wanted nothing to eat, but you wanted a lot of coffee because it kept them working in you.

these pills inspired the song "mothers little helpers" by the rolling stones and they were amphetamines. they used to be in tablet and capsules form. they were  prescribed in the 50s to early 80's and was probably the best small amount of speed you could ever get with out any harm to you..unless you took 6 or 7 in a day, then you wouldn't sleep for days and get mess up, start seeing things & hearing things. but after 81 they were banned in the us.

I think it was because of the Truckers in this country, they were using them to make a lot of long hauls, not sleeping and having bad wrecks. they were known by names like, "west coast turn arounds" it was said a Trucker could take two in New York drive to the west coast, take two and come back with out sleeping. there were also names like, Benny's, white crosses , single cross.

An yes I used them to. there was many times in markets over a 100,00 that I have staid in a market all night on a Thursday or Friday with one or two other cutters and we cut the cooler. then wrap and fill the counter, when the others came in the next morning the case would be loaded, **** every where to be wrapped. we would leave, go home, sleep maybe a few hours, get up drink a couple cups of coffee and go play some where all day with some woman or women LOL

Later I'll tell you how I first got to talking these. DAMN those old cutters  LOL

Brings back memories
He is cutting pre- rigimortus (sp) beef. You can tell by the purple color
Seams pull very easy and he is using that hook to pull while he works his knife
You could keep pace like that for an hour and then you got a 20 minute break and you went back to it
and that Chainmail glove was your best friend
if you wore it you kept all your fingers

AP, I'm pretty sure you can still find those little pills. I've got some young guys working for me diagnosed with what they call "ADHD". Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The cure, apparently, is speed. Literally, dextroamphetemine. I'm told by the old timer I work with that back in the day "ADHD" used to be called "LAZY". LOL I tell him that's not PC. He tells me he doesn't give a sh**. LOL

He's very good and fast. Not sure how long he can keep that pace up, however.

Also, that looked like a very small carcass to me.
