Leon, even though I have been away from the computer chat rooms, I just wanted you to know how much this group means to me. I'm glad to be a member, and being a female butcher/meatcutter makes me a rare find.. Just got the offer of a lifetime.... Meat Manager/ Lead Meatcutter at a new store they just purchased. It will be mine if I want it.... I just started with this company friday, and as of yesterday I was on my own in the afternoon, and I was going solo today as the other guy reported off sick...I feel I did good, did all the cutting and even placed and order ..... Its baby steps, but I did it. Thanks for having me, and looking forward to talking to everyone here!!!
HI THERE MY DEAR !! GLAD you are back, old man has miss you off these boards LOL SO I guess you got to make up for loss years ( wink )
I'm happy for you with your up coming market, I told you years ago you could handle one !! NOW GO DO IT !!
IF you have any problems, hit the board here, you got a lot of market managers here to give you advice and answer any questions you might need answered. In fact you have about three here that lives in your same area, butcher29 is one that is closer to you lol you two may be drinking coffee next week. LOL and DADDY is always here for you ( wink )
By the way, your baby steps were over years ago, just put what you have learn to use !!!
It's my honor to have you here, HOPE you can make one of the chats soon !!! HAVE MISS YOU !!!
tia, the cowboy told me your name in the old site, I remember you, you use to post a lot, good stuff if I remember right.
my advice is keep a clean cooler, keep the odds and ends out, have a neat cooler when you count, and keep a close eye on price changes. make sure you know your inv sheet before you count.
as for ordering, it will take a few weeks to get the hang of it but try to have very little when the truck gets there, try to order a little extra on fresh meat specials, you can get rid of them the next week and pick up a little on them.
Thanks for the boost of confidence....I'm really worried I won't be able to do this...inventory scares the hell out of me. We will only be doing inventory once a month and its on the 1st of every month....just when you load up for the 1st of the month sales...Oh man, keep thinking what have I gotten myself into...but as far as cutting, thats easy to me, its the paperwork that scares me. We have to take temps in morning and afternoon in all coolers/cases. Temp checks on all trucks coming in and have to have it all written down. we have to have an invoice sheet that gets intermailed within the company...and they order from 6 different places... 2day meat sales are booked with the regional meat manager he will send all the 2 day sales stuff, I dont have to book them. SO, This will be interesting as I will be going back to the store I worked at for 13 1/2 years but now its under NEW ownership with this larger Corperation. SO even though its the same store I'm going to be at, ITS NOT THE SAME... I'm going from an small town IGA to this new one, I'm not allowed to disclose as they have a "social networking clause" in their manuel.
I work for Marketplace IGA in East Abbotsford BC. It's an Independantly owned one but HY.LOUIE still holds alot of the reins here. We do inventory about every 5 weeks. I hate it but oh well ya get used to it. I have been thrown into management a few times now. Running a tight room helps. As a woman in the industry.........Piss me off and I cry..........What do men do when women cry? Alot of them fold like a deck of cards. It's a defense mode I only go to when shoved in the corner. I am learning to keep a stiff upper lip when pissed off tho so....after 10 years...I'm getting better and I have a GREAT customer base that requires alot of specialty cutting. I am FUSSY about making the product look good. I guess I have alot of pride in my work. I am sure you will do well. Inventory shouldn't scare you unless it's a week later and you've forgotten to count the 20 cases of left over Turkey from Christmas? I am still learning..........if ever you wake up and say I'm done learning and I know all I need to know?.....................It's time to change jobs
for your ordering keep track of your movment reports with what goes through the front end.....you can use it as a guide for your ordering....and take a close look at your competition in the area....never run out of your lead items...and push the stuff that does sell with 2 or 3 rows and keep the stuff that dont really sell to one row........it will really help your shrink...and make sure you push seasonal items.......
