Running WCS 5.0 with Reverse Proxy

I am trying WCS on Ubuntu 16.04 and have checked my java installation as well as glibc. I also got my trial license today.

I'm setting up a reverse proxy server via apache for WCS so that I don't have to open ports to the whole world (I'm currently doing this with another websocket system) and I'm running into issues that I can't navigate to host.domain.com (where "host" is my host mapped to the endpoint 8444). I have a host mapped to 127.0.0.1 on port 8444 and I see this in the log files (IP addresses/hostnames are mixed up)

8444 is a secure websocket port, so you should use a proxy for this message as HTTPS, not HTTP

Hi! Sorry for the intervention. I am not a professional programmer, and I just wanted to ask you about proxy servers. What is the difference between a proxy server and a VPN? And what is better? Everyone uses VPN now, but I've heard that proxy services can be as good as VPNs if you install them correctly. I know that proxies are something old but, as they say, old by old but gold. I would like to find out more about SpeedProxies. What is this concept about? I've heard that this type of service allows you to connect to some websites that are not available to you now. I, for example, would like to use PayPal even though this service is not provided in my country. And I would like to ask you whether it is safe to use a proxy server for this purpose.
