All though I am now sitting on the sidelines but surely I feel the pain of my fellow working meat cutters.
Let me take you back to Christmas 1965. Guess what? It was the same way back then nothing has change except for the sales volumes. Pressure, pressure and more pressure. I use to pal around with two friends back then one worked for the post office the other for Tobyhanna Army Depot. We used to fish a lot and while fishing we would talk about many things and our jobs. I use to get so mad I wanted to drowned both of them. There isn't many more jobs out there that is more demanding mentally and physically than being a meat cutters, male or female. So you either have to love what you do, or we are all insane to work like we do or did!
IS THERE A SOLUTION? Probably not. Because "greed" topples everything. But, but, can we do something about it? YES, YES we can!. Just stay with me for a few sentences." There is a common saying within many eastern martial arts that a good fighter should be able to ‘use an opponent’s strength against the". Staying with this philosophy, lets use our Club to make contact with XYZ supermarkets by offering them the opportunity to "advertise for meat cutters" nationally!
There are thousands of meat cutters, and consumers that visit our site and daily and weekly we are attracting more and more people every day. Personally, I think consumers not only need to be educated about "how to buy meat" but they should also be educated about "what it takes" to deliver the meat to them.
As an example: You work in a beautiful modern supermarket. The consumer walks in around the holidays and "wow", what a store. Isle are full, specialty departments are full, the deli is spectacular, you can purchase your honey flowers, you can get your nails done, you can bank there, and maybe you can buy a pair of glasses, music is playing softly lighting and colors are awesome. You tell your friends "wow" you need to shop in this store. And in the meat department behind the cases and behind the scene its like the "first wave hitting Omaha Beachat Normandy"!
Similarly, its like the woman that goes into Macy's and buys an expensive dress that she is just enthralled with. Not knowing about the slave like conditions employees have to work under in countries like Vietnams or Indonesia or China working hard for little wages to make that dress happen. Or the guy that goes into a fancy jewelry store to buy his honey a diamond not knowing about the human suffering that goes on in the diamond mines to harvest that diamond.
So what can we do: For just $35 bucks a month for a 4 month period a grand total of $140 for one whole quarter of a year any supermarket can advertise their job opportunites on our site for meat cutters! How simple and inexpensive is that??
coalcracker it's a great idea for a meat cutter wanting to relocate. But the company I work for use's the fish net approach. we bring a few guys from grocery & the front end. they work for a month and are either lazy and sent back,or find it's to much work for no more money and ask to go back. and then they repeat the process. we have to do this because the meat cutters in the area's we are located don't want to work for us. they know one person has to cut, clean, sanitize, and maintain a high level of costumer service. they have been scared off and would rather work for a smaller chain for less money and stress.
that's what i'm going to do when I retire,go part-time for a small chain for play money and no stress. or try star bucks or guitar center,I'm getting a fun job.
