Not sure this is the right board for this question, and if it is not, I apologize in advance.
I've restored an old 1920 era American Slicing Machine Co slicer, Scout model. Everything works great, but it really needs a new blade, as the original has a 2" crack in it, from the edge to the center. Also, the finish is badly pitted, and after all these years, the edge more resembles a serrated blade than a smooth.
I've tried EBay, Craigslist and all the usual suspects with no results. Also spoke to the company that bought the company, and to several German knife manufacturers, with no luck. Any ideas would be appreciated.
I like that. Yes this is the right board. I am glad you posted it. We do have someone who might be able to answer that question. Some of these old slicers do not have replacement parts, but maybe you'll luck out on this one. Maybe you can find another one from this company with a decent blade to switch out.
OK..sorry for the confusion. I hope the member you mentioned will contact me.
There is one other Scout for sale, and believe it or not, only 100 miles from me, but the guy doesn't seem too interested in selling it. The machine itself is missing several non critical parts, and the blade looks better than mine. I've asked him for detailed pics of the blade several times...no reply...so maybe that means the blade is in bad shape too. Also made him an offer on the complete machine....I think he wants way too much for it in the shape it's in.
Anyway....thanks for the info.....look forward to hearing from your guy.

If Berkel couldn't help matching your blade to one that is used currently try here http://www.volanobiz.com/index.html or info@volanobiz.com Ask Emilio if he can help re blade The original diameter of the blade may be slightly larger if your blade is worn. Blades of that period were more often made with carbon, not stainless steel like today's blades and wore down quicker. It will be hard to find a vintage blade that is in good condition. If you plan to use your slicer for display only, you might be able to have a similar blade fabricated.
I know a blade guy here in Toronto, he does a lot of business in the US. He is at all the shows. He makes needles for injectors, plates for grinders, blades for silent cutters, etc. His name is Tim and here is the info and website.
Hope this works out for you.

Try to match your blade to a current blade. To do this you will need to know a few things.
What are the inside and outside diameters ? Height ? Remove blade from slicer - lay on flat surface sharp edge down - measure from inside diam. to surface How is blade attached to bearing assembly ?
Does the bearing assembly spin smooth without any wobble ?
