Not sure how far back this baby dates, but I'm thinking the 20's since my wife's grandfather opened his butcher shop in 1920. I thought I'd take a crack at restoring it, since everything worked. Only real problem is the blade. It has a 1.5" crack from the edge in toward the center. Can't find a replacement and everyone I talked to is afraid to try to machine or weld it because it's so old. I also put a grounded power cord on, and replaced two bearings in the blade shaft mechanism. Belt is original, although I do have a new one as well. Comments and/or criticisms will be welcomed.
I can see it fetching a good price. If you list it on an ebay auction I would want to watch it and see how high it gets. Is that the original color scheme?
The color scheme is original, yes. Not sure it would be the exact shade, but it's very close. Another color used on this model is a dark green with gold trim. Under all the paint and goop on this one however, you could make out the maroon color.
The American Slicer Co was in Chicago. It later turned into US Berkel. You can contact Berkel to see if they can give you any info. Also check to see if any of the blades from currently produced models are compatible with your model. Compare inside and outside diameters, thickness and mounting holes as well as how it is attached. Check the picture of the blade ( last pic ) on this model at Ebay. www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-AMERICAN-SLICING-MACHINE-Co-MODEL-22-MEAT-SLICER-INDUSTRIAL-AGE-/281945304623 Here is another picture of an old American slicer.
