National Family Meals Month, launched by FMI and joined by companies including Hormel Foods, aims to increase awareness of how sharing meals benefits families in ways such as fostering positive behaviors like sharing, fairness and respect in children as they grow into adulthood. Studies that support frequent family meals have also found that children who participate in three or more family meals per week have better eating habits and healthier weights.PorkNetwork.com
Billion Family Dinners Challenge aims to boost family meal stats Just 53% of adults with children younger than 18 have a family dinner six or seven nights a week, according to a 2013 Gallup poll, and as part of National Family Meals Month, the Billion Family Dinners Challenge aims to improve those statistics by promoting the DinnerCall application, which encourages families to log and share their meal experiences on social media. "No matter the meal, we’re looking for people to reconnect and become advocates for a movement that can change our society at large," said Gerry Hays, co-founder of the challenge, which hopes to see families log 1 billion meals. The Huffington Post
