Pete Rose, one of our members for years here has took a very bad turn in his health. He has come down with Multiple Myeloma, a rare blood cell cancer.Multiple myeloma is a blood cell (plasma cell) cancer most often diagnosed in people over the age of 65.
Pete has worked at the Co-op for 35 years in Alberta Canada and was at Medicine Hat Co-op where he had been their Assistant Market Manager for a number of years. Right now he is on disability, for the next 6 months he will be taking chemo every week. At this time he is doing well so far. Fatigue hits him at times, Pete is very strong minded and has a lot of faith. Each day now is a new one in his life. Multiple Myeloma is treatable and I hope the best for him and he is soon back cutting meat
The Treatment
Individuals with MGUS or no symptoms are usually observed through regular physical examinations and blood tests, but are not treated. Individuals who have symptoms may be treated with:
Chemotherapy drugs – these may include Cytoxan (cyclophosphamide), Alkeran (melphalan), or corticosteroids such as prednisone. The combination of Thalomid (thalidomide) and Decadron (dexamethasone) has also been an effective treatment.
In addition, the individual may receive treatment for symptoms, such as receiving a blood transfusion to treat anemia or antibiotics to treat infections.
Pete is in our Meatcuttersclub " Hall of Fame ", he has been with the Club a number of years now, I think 3 1/2 or 4, For a long time he was very active with us, Not sure but I think this started coming on him about a year ago, He is also in the Face book Meatcuttersclub Club and a Member of Butchers & meat cutters.
FOR ALL of you that believe in the power of Prayer, I wish you would hold him in yours. For those that don't, I wish you would wish him a speedy recovery in his fight.
Thank you for sharing this with us Leon. I will certainly keep Pete in my thoughts and pray that God will give him comfort and strength in the coming days/weeks. I've had several first hand experiences of watching loved ones suffer from cancer and I know it's just not much fun. Pete, if you're reading this, please know we support you in your fight, we're cheering you on all the way buddy! Hang in there and keep your chin up and faith strong. You're not alone in your fight!

I will include him in my prayers. I would like to take this opportunity to ask all our members to register to be a bone marrow donor. You may have the opportunity to help in a situation like this. 3 years ago my marrow saved an infant from death. Please sign up at www.bethematch.org.
Thank you.
My heart goes out to you, had a close friend's whose mother had that. it took a little over a year but she got cured, she still around. Prayers for Pete
