At the Depot you step back into an era where fine food & fine service go hand in hand. The restaurant has been a Nationally Registered Site since 1978. The building, which was begun in the fall of 1852 is one of the few depots in this area built before the Civil War. The Depot stands faithfully complete in its original architectural state. In the careful restoration of this landmark, all modifications have been fitted to the original building, without destroying the fabric of the past. The restoration took almost a year and one million dollars to complete.
Through the years the Depot has provided Dalton with some colorful events. The depot figured in the Great Locomotive Chase of 1862 when Conductor William A. Fuller, aboard the engine “Texas” chased “The General”, a locomotive stolen by Captain James J. Andrews, through North Georgia.
The Dalton Depot can set 350 and has a Stage for bands or presentations
It has a large area to the side that can be used for our last cut off and Winnerpresentation. I will soon bring this up for a vote with the board members to see if they will vote to use the Dalton Depot for our last stages of our competition. TJ has made a good offer to us and will include a evening meal which we can pick from three options.
