LINCOLN, Neb. – A federal judge sentenced a man to a year of probation for falsely labeling hundreds of pounds of meat as USDA inspected and approved, according to the JournalStar.com.
Cory Douglas Allemang, an employee at Romans II, a meat processor in Norfolk, Neb., was charged in a three count indictment in January. In the indictment, he was accused of selling approximately 300 lbs. of sausages and approximately 400 lbs. of beef jerky by falsely representing that the meat products had been inspected by the US Department of Agriculture. Additionally, the indictment charged that in February 2012, Allemang falsely represented that various deer meat products had been inspected and approved by USDA.
Allemang's probation includes a provision that he not work in the meat processing business.
I remember years ago we got a warning for reusing the boxes our beef came in. The problem was that the boxes had the mark of inspection on them, thus implying that the product in the box was USDA inspected. We were told to cross out the inspection mark so that they would know the hamburger patties in the short loin box were not USDA inspected.
I wonder if this guy may have been doing the same? I know of several other meat processors who were fined for the same thing as what we got the warning for.

I don't understand what you're saying. Wasn't ALL your beef inspected? If so, then anything you grind or cut could be put in a non original box and there would be no issue. How did you get non inspected beef? Sure people bring in their own back yard steers. Not inspected. You cut it for them. They take it home. You don't sell it to others. Where did your non inspected beef come from?
We had a thread on that in the old MSN boards. It was called something like "what is the worst thing you ever did, saw, or was part of?"
By "part of", I mean if you knowingly wrapped it, or put it in the counter, or left it there, you were part of it even if you didn't cut it or order it to be cut.
I know of one guy who brought U.S beef into Canada and re-boxed it in Canadian boxes and sold it back to the U.S as Canadian beef. He was glad the inspector caught that mistake the employees where doing as he had no knowledge of it.

Just one of many things but when I was an apprentice the crew called me "Lucifer" and played that Rolling Stones song about Satan just about every day I was on shift.
The reason? My Meat Manager specialized in "5 lb boxes" of frozen meat. It was me who was made to pack them. Nothing went to waste. Out of code hot dogs went into these and were always "Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs" no matter what the brand really was. Bad chicken, brown steaks, old, old hamburger, slimy pork all went into these boxes and were sold frozen. The crew would always speculate on how many people I had killed. In truth they should have been calling our Meat Manager Satan or Lucifer!
