GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. —Spartan Stores here and Nash Finch Co. said Monday they have agreed to merge in an all-stock transaction valued at $1.3 billion.
Together, Spartan Stores and Minneapolis-based Nash Finch will have 22 distribution centers serving 37 states, will operate 177 retail stores and will be the leading distributor to military commissaries and exchanges in the United States. They will have combined pro forma annual sales of about $7.5 billion.
Nash Finch, which had revenues of about $4.8 billion last year, will become a subsidiary of Spartan Stores, which had revenues of $2.6 billion.
I know Nash Finch needs it. Here in NC, they distributed to all Piggly Wiggly stores until 2010, half of the Piggly Wiggly stores in NC are now with MDI. It really hurt Nash Finch in this state, It would be nice if they open some Spartan stores over here or something to give Nash Finch more stores and open more jobs in this state.
