PRAYERS FOR CLUB MEMBERS SCOTT & KARRON MITCHELL owners of Pink Lake Meats
Pink Lake area is the worst affected by this. Plenty of people are donating land, homes etc for livestock, pets etc. Lots of evacs, civic centre is taking them in I think.
Kaaron Mitchell is starting a cash donation tin if anyone wants to help out but not sure what is needed most right now.
She says just when the chips are down, the local coppers are buggered from helping the firefighters and emergency services all day - some one goes and ram raids a local business. Not sure of which one - but knows know its not Pink Lake Meats.
LOCAL NEWS ON THE FIRES
A total of 50 volunteer firefighters and two fixed-wing waterbombers are fighting the blaze in the suburb of Pink Lake.
Pink Lake butcher Clint Heron says the smoke was overwhelming.
"Quite a thick black smoke by the time I got to work with the winds, with the winds picking up, so it sort of
escalated," he said.
A bushfire emergency warning remains in place for people living in Dunkley Circuit, Barook Road, Eleven Mile Beach Road, Spencer Road, Keenan Road and Sanctuary Crescent in Pink Lake.
Crews have managed to stop the blaze from damaging other homes on Spencer Road but the Department of Fire and Emergency Services says the fire could still pose a threat if wind conditions change.
DFES's Allen Gale says residents have been urged to leave immediately.
"The main area we're concerned about now is that area immediately to the west of Pink Lake, particularly in that Spencer Road/Keenan Road area," he said.
Mr Heasman says the wind has now died down and he is hopeful the fire can be contained overnight.
"If it hadn't have been for the wind change, the [fire] would have come straight into [other] properties," he said.
"The guys fighting the fire are absolute heroes and I cannot emphasise enough how much emergency services have pulled together.
"We have two water bombers which came over from Albany and have been here for many hours now.
"It's been a very coordinated response on the ground."
A helitack has been sent from Perth to Esperance, 728 kilometres to the south-east of the capital city.
The threat from a second fire south of Pink Lake in Sinclair has been downgraded to a bushfire advice.
Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers Leon - we are safe. Some people lost houses and livestock - the community is rallying together to help those who did have a devastating loss. 5 confirmed suspicious fires in the space of 3 hours. One more a few km out of town was started by someone slashing grass with a total vehicle movement ban in place. Very very scary. The first fire came within about 400 metres of our house.
The worst fire seems to have been contained with much milder conditions forecast for today - the mercury reached a nasty 41C yesterday with 30-35 knot winds.. very bad day for a firebug.
The business that was ram raided was a local motorcycle dealership - Powerplant Motorcycles.
