Salmonella poisoning: 16 people in 5 states have been sickened by salmonella food poisoning linked to ground beef.
The CDC has linked the salmonella poisoning cases to last week's recall of more than 1,000 pounds of ground beef from two Michigan businesses.
At least 16 people in five states have fallen sick from salmonella food poisoning tied to ground beef, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
No deaths have been reported yet, but more than half of those sickened had to be hospitalized, CBS Newsreported. Nine of the cases were in Michigan. The others were in Arizona, Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin.
The CDC has linked the salmonella poisoning cases to last week's recall of more than 1,000 pounds of ground beef from two Michigan businesses: Troy-based Gab Halal Foods and Sterling Heights-based Jouni Meats. The agency said that ground beef from both businesses may be contaminated with a strain of Salmonella typhimurium
Seven of the people who were sickened in Michigan ate a raw beef dish called kibbeh at an unidentified Detroit restaurant. The CDC has asked people not to consume uncooked meat.
