well I'm not in union presently but union scale in mi varies from probably $16 - $20 hrly but that's all relevent to cost of living. Quite the C.O.L. gap between Mi and Ca that's for sure! There are websites that tell you how much you need to make in another area to maintain your standard of living given your current wage and location, that is what really matters in my opinion.

Frank, Here in Georgia pay rate runs 12 to 15 dollars for a experience meat cutter, 18 to 20 in Atlanta, Georgia. Market Managers can go up to 24 in Atlanta if they union, Atlanta meat cutters drop away from the union after Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America join with the retail clerks, The retail clerks' union didn't do for them like Amalgamated did, I was with Amalgamated 442 when they merge, all the retail clerks wanted was our money. To my knowledge right now the only company that is union there is Kroger.

In the 70's you didn't work in a chain store in Atlanta if you weren't union, after Amalgamated merge in 79, it went down hill, by 85 few chains in Atlanta were union

seattle wa union scale starts cutters at 10.00 per hour...but is up to business on where to start on scale and if any hours are credited. journeyman is 22 and change....with manager $1 more. some independents pay over scale just because they expect more "thinking" out of their managers than the chains do.

i have seen a growing trend in paying meat managers salary......depending on what kind of company you work for....i am sure you can all see the possible problems with that scenario.

in Local 5 of Northern California it's $21.574, or was. Some places have different contracts now. Nob Hill/Raley's just settled after a short strike. I don't know the details. Safeway avoided a strike and settled. I don't know the details. We're still on the same contract that expired a year ago. Haven't started talking. I hear Lucky and/orSave On lost a lot including Sunday pay and all holidays. Surely that's an exaggeration?

Sunday is time and 1/3rd BUT if you work OT on Sunday, the OT is  2.25 X the regular rate ($48.5415). It's been about 5 years since I got any Sunday OT. I used to work Sunday's alone and got 10 hours. Those two hours of Sunday OT were great to have.

I only get 5 weeks vacation per year.
