we had meat clerks at Sobeys, Usually the position would go to a wrapper that has been around awhile and knows the business but did not need to stand at the block all day. There are a few cutters that just want to come in cut and go home and not be bothered with all the other things that need to be done so this position was created for the other people that want to move up and learn all they could about the dept. Could cut chicken make grinds, order, you name it they did it.
There is a Sprouts about 1 mile from me. It opened as Sunflower Farmers Market, but changed the name after a few months.
I like how a company with a lot of rules/policies will hire a (full time?) person to do them rather than make cutters do it without providing enough help.
But I hope the "senior meat clerk" gets a fair chance to become journeyman and get paid properly.
it sounds like a job at wal mart- open the boxes and fill the case
or
part of a phase out of cutters.....
looks like a lot of responsibility for a "clerk"
I wonder if it pays more than 8.00 an hr....and here in lies the issue- they'd love to have a lot of quality applicants,,,but if you can make more holding a road construction (stop/slow) sign, then good luck finding applicants.
