I don't know what to say, but I like it.

So last week we were interviewing hard for a position. I can barely keep up with how fast things are changing here. One moment a guy is doing this, the next he's doing that, then the next day he's being trained for something else. Anyway, a young lady is being interviewed. While she was waiting on the interview, I'm getting checked out for my 10 am break. The interview area is a seating area on one side of the store. I immediately knew who it was. She's dressed well and I knew she'd get the job if she wanted it. I walked out to my car as I had some stuff to do.

Later, I find out she was hired and had a Master's in Clinical Psychology. She was hired for our seafood dept. I was told she had a heck of a handshake. I knew one of two things: she'll sink or swim. On her first day, I walked past her while she was digging out a lobster for a customer. She had no problems doing it and was excited about it. I knew right then she'll be swimming. The next day (today) I poked around about her with her manager and she really liked her and said she found it fun!

Later today, after getting back from lunch, I found a cute blond-haired girl about 20 yrs old scraping T-bones while another guy trimmed and trayed. I looked at my fellow assistant and just smiled. He pulled her off the front end. There she was scraping T-bones, bare handed, just having a blast. For the rest of my day, I went to counter production while they focused on T-bones. She never showed any remorse and just kept on scrapin', happy go lucky.

Bottom line is I enjoy the new blood of young ladies in the market business. They can make for a great dynamic and diversity, as well as providing a welcome hand. Keeps us men gentlemen as well. I'm going to do some poking around tomorrow and see if the young T-bone scraper wants to join our ranks. Didn't have time today. I just wanted to share I guess. Does this happen at your store?

Gotta walk a fine line today, while most woman I've met that worked in the meat dept, couldhandle themselves very well- we have "sensitivity" training, twice a year, and we have to sign a piece of paper.
Essentially, a guy has to be very very careful, if you look at a woman wrong, it's sexual harassment-it's all on her interpretation, not yours...
Over half of all companies have been sue'd for some sort of harrassment, and many companies have a zero tolerance policy. because of previous lawsuits.

dont get me wrong here-I love working with woman, and have promoted many on thier own merits-but I've also got caught in the crossfire of a bogus sexual harrassment case (not against me, but I was manager) she later admitted it was bogus-after the guy lost his job and wife.

Years ago-I loved to joke around,,,,,but in the past 5 years, I watch every word I say-
the woman that puts on the sexual harrassment meetings, says right up front-the deck is stacked against men-but only because thiers a reason to it.-watch everything you say-

I dont mean to sound like a downer, I do share what you are saying- woman lighten up the day to day grind-all I'm saying, is just be a bit cautious in todays world

well i think that sounds nice. so far they sound good natured and for your sake I hope it stays that way because all the women i know and work with are so angry all the time. its a real downer to have to work around them. Its ok for a woman to get fed up and throw a tantrum but if I do that I get a talking to. Its ok for the woman to be really snotty and disrespectful to me but If I say "that isn't neccessary you can be a little nicer" I will get in trouble. I am sorry but I have NOT had a positive expereince worki9ng with women. It is HARD. Don't get me wrong there are a couple good natured ones that I work with and I appreciate that but a majoritiy of them are just evil evil little b,......es. I work in a store that is 95 percent women.

I agree, WATCH WHAT YOU SAY. Not all of us are like that but I have known some woman that take offense if you tell them they look nice today. Keep it clean. You can still joke around but remember if you would not say it to your daughter or grandmother DONT SAY IT. We have a blast at my place but then again the guys dont get nasty or gross. If they make a comment about a good looking customer I turn my head and pretend not to hear. After all guys will be guys. I have never had to tell them to knock it off, guess I have been lucky. Bottom line dont say it if it could not be said to your daughter.

About the nasty women , it seems that most ladies I have worked with are just nasty. Hate their job or life or whatever. Moods are up and down and everywhere. It sucks. I have the same personality 99.9 percent of the time except when I am disapointed with someone then I shut up and plan my "coaching conversation". But then again guys are so competitive. Everyday when I show up whoever is opening always points out the mistakes of the others. New cutters and old cutters no difference between the two. Male ego is a constant thing I deal with. Gotta love it
