What was the first Grocery store

I bet you remember going into this one when you were a kid.  hey isn't that you right there?

I am just teasing. I came across that picture of an early meat market close to my home town. the Picture was taken in 1912. i thought i would share it with everyone. i love old meat market pictures.  Someday i might start collecting them.  Anyone to answer your question.  I have a twin brother ok my best memories of when my mom went grocery stopping was that she would leave me and my brother with my aunt because we tended to get very unruly when she was trying to shop.  So i don't really have any memories of being in a market until I was old enough to know how to behave myself.    What I can tell you is that she liked to shop at Hamady Brothers,  That was a family owned chain and was very popular in this part of michigan for a long time.  they closed all their stores in the mid to late 80s.  The location of their store where my mom shopped became a save a lot where I started out as a meat cutter so i guess it all connected after all.

The Commissary on some Navy base early 1960's. Whatever one is in Charleston South Carolina. I guess it's probably still open. But they have closed a lot of bases.
I don't remember anything in particular about that FIRST one. I was 3 or 4. But a few years later I saw a poster of the beef chart lady. That was cool. Too bad we can't display it anymore. Except maybe in my avatar.

RE: What was the first Grocery store

In the late 60's I remember walking to a store with my brother and sister and we'd pick up a 75 cent pizza- I remember the smell of that store, and another one in the neighborhood- It was a french speaking store owner- we couldnt understand a word he said
I remember the smells, of pizza and the sweetness of candy

we would by 5 cent caps and blow them up in front of the house

years later, in the same store, I use to call on that store, and was flooded with memories.

just the other day, I was in a store and an older veteran was there working part time at a store-we got talking about where he use to work, and he said he use to work at the A&p and First national that was close to where we lived
and it was a good chance my mother use to take me there at about the same time- well over 40 yrs ago
