How does your Store Manager view the meat dept, something he takes time to understand and is proud of, something he would like to get rid of and go pre pac
The last store where I was dept manager, the rest of the management team barely acknowledged there was a meat dept. Didnt want anything to do with it.. which was fine with me!
OUR STORE IS KNOWN FOR ITS MEAT DEPT...WITHOUT US I THINK THE STORE WOULD GO UNDER....SO YEA OUR MGR IS PROUD OF US, & HE TRIES TO HELP PROMOTE US WHENEVER HE CAN
most chain store managers were concerned about short term budgets- Im thinking they would bring in case ready meats, if he/she thinks it will achieve budgets
with independents, most of the owners know, the meat dept, is the most important dept of the store, so there is more appreciation
Being as I am a rather green new manager of the department the store manager shows lots of interest in my department. He will walk the case everyday especially when I have days off. I dont have an assistant so he fills me in on what no no's the crew does when I am not there so I can follow up. Never anything too negitive to say, just observations which help me do my job and continue to learn the trade
Are store theory is people come in r store for r meat and produce people don't go to a store for grocery dept.... My store manager will help with specials and is actually a huge help
People can get nice groceries anywhere. (And probably cheaper) The same can't be said for meat. Without our meat dept. they might as well lock the doors. It is the backbone of the store and the owners/managers know it and appreciate all the hard work. The longer I work for an independent the harder it would be to go back to a chain. Just gotta find a way to make a few extra bucks............legally! LOL!
when i first got at my new market they were all over me because it was such a mess. but now since i got it runnin rite they leave me alone back there. i think that is the best. i hate them managers that caint even tell you what is in ground beef but come back there and try to tell you how to run your shop. i am so glad i dont have to deal with that
My Store Manager may not be a meatcutter, but at least he gets his job done and keeps me on my toes. He knows the business and paperwork inside and out and helps out that way. as long as i make budget, staff and I keep the case full and things running smoothly, life is good
Previously I have had some of the worst store manager's, the worst seems to be the ones who are not motivated at all and want to do the bare minimum to get by
