Five Points Grocery to close Saturday, thank customers with event
Five Points Grocery in eastern Henderson County,Hendersonville, NC will host a customer appreciation day Saturday before closing its doors for good after nearly a half-century in business.
"It's my way of saying thanks to the community for helping me out," said owner Cathy Riley, whose father, the late Clifford M. Justice, opened the store 47 years ago. Justice died in 2010.
Riley said the business could no longer withstand the economic challenges it faced.
"Just one of them things that can't be helped," Riley said through tears Wednesday. "I just can't do it no more."
Riley will be serving free hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks beginning about 11 a.m. Saturday and lasting through most of the day. Five Points Grocery is at 4802 Sugarloaf Road.
