The below is a message I got on the post I have there about stopping the shortages of meat cutters. It's very encouraging words and I think you will agree this man has our trade in his blood. Also shows that GOOD MEAT & GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE OVER COMES
As a store owner I am the cutter as well. Trying to find a cutter in the area that we live is about impossible. The oil industry is very active and they pay big money for somebody that can just breathe. I find this industry is such a relational occupation with lot's of people comparing "THEIR" butcher to "THEIR" doctor to "THEIR" dentist and many others! If others are reading this I am encouraging cutters to keep on cutting! Having been a cutter all of 28 yrs I find people are coming back to the butcher because of the lack of service the big box offer. We are approx 7 mins from all the 8 major players in the meat business and our little grocery store continues to thrive because of the meat department. We have had to ramp up our sausage and jerky program as well as other value added products but it works. Our department is not large but it's attracting many from that 7 mins away and it's very satisfying! This may not answer how to stop the shortage of cutters but keep doing what you are doing and look for different ways to excite what you enjoy about our occupation!
Very good advice!! also the independents can push the truckload meat sales and monthly freezer plans- also push on facebook-you can friend up the town-all these, big box stores dont do, and can be a big strength for the independent along with what he mentioned
yes sir, good meat, great customer service will see you through. there is small shop close to me that has three major companys in his front yard but he stays busy, parking lot always full.
