Question for Market Managers

As a Market Manager, Do you merge your personal and professional lives, or how do you separate these two parts of your life or do your personal and professional lives will clash

I had a Market Manager years ago that refuse to take any phone call from the store if he was off. even through he told me about this, I found out the hard way one day when I called him at home about a meat order, I never wanted to hear those cuss words again lol

RE: Question for Market Managers

I am a market manager and I dont mind a phone call here and there. I would rather have a phone call than come into a surprise inthe morning. Hasnt gotten out of hand, only time I dont want a call is when im on vacation.

I concur, I'd rather get a call than find out something was screwed up. My market sales are 2/3 meat and 1/3 seafood. It can kill me quick either way.

RE: Question for Market Managers

I try to say once I clock out my mind shuts off but I have had a few phone calls, mostly from the wrapper, asking a few questions & I don't mind that especially since I don't want a suprise in the morning or to lose my ass on something either....I have had to come in on my day off later at night to cut but that was a rare occurance because we had gotten unually busy that day....

RE: Question for Market Managers

I am no longer a Meat Manager, I am now in a regional position, which I have only held for 3 months. In running all of the shops/teams that I have ran from low vomume of 15k a week to 175k a week, I have always beleived as a leader the team should be able to contact you at all times, even in my new role. If it was your butcher shop on the corner you would have to be available. Why would you not extend the same respect to the team that you lead/supervise everday??? I apologize if this sounds negative, but the team in my shop have always meant the world to me, and to hear as a leader" it is my day off" is crap! Don't be there for you company..Fine!!! but to not be there for your team is unexcusable...answer the phone!!!!

as a market manager, a few pnone calls will come, and answer, but the more you train your crew the less the phone will ring

I would rather answer a call from an employee with a question then from the Manager with a problem

either way I am available 24/7

I usually call the store at least once on my day off. Also, I always have my phone and don't mind a quick call or text. They often save me a bigger headache later.

I am open 24 hours to everything! So, I can keep a close control and avoid the mess! I think it is a responsibility for this position, and you must deal with it.
