Supermarket creep; THIEVES CRACK SAFES BELOW ASDA TILLS UNDER NOSES OF EMPLOYEES AND SHOPPERS.

Byline: OWEN HUGHES

A GANG of thieves raided the till safes at an Asda supermarket while the store was open - without staff or customers noticing.

The three raiders targeted the store at Kinmel Bay, near Rhyl, entering the busy supermarket in the early evening.

They then set about breaking their way into floor safes below the store checkouts under the noses of staff.

It is understood that five till safes, under checkouts that were not being manned, were raided by the three men and more than pounds 1,000 taken.

A source said staff were not aware the thefts were taking place and there had been no confrontation.

It is believed the thefts were then detected later in the evening.

North Wales Police are appealing for information and CCTV film from the store is being studied.

A Force spokesman said: "Police were informed at 8.30pm on Tuesday night of an incident at a store on St Asaph Avenue, Kinmel Bay.

"We were told three males had entered the store and broken into the till safes in the floor, which they had then forced open.

"An undisclosed sum of money was taken.

"We are now appealing for information from the public."

It is believed the three men left the scene in a black Vauxhall Vectra after walking out of the supermarket.

The safes are used by staff to deposit money during a shift to reduce the amount of cash kept in the tills.

A spokeswoman for Asda Walmart said: "There was a robbery at our Kinmel Bay, Rhyl store last night.

"Thankfully no-one was injured and the store is trading as normal."

Lock boxes below tills at Asda,Kinmel Bay, near Rhyl were raided as customers did their shopping
