Avoid bad hires

In regards to avoiding bad hires that result in lost revenue, low morale and turnover expenses, Crew stresses that managers understand the top five reasons new employees are ultimately terminated, leave under pressure, receive disciplinary action or negative performance reviews.  They are as follows:

•Coachability: The inability to accept and implement feedback from store directors, colleagues, customers and others;
•Emotional Intelligence: The inability to understand and manage one’s own emotions and accurately assess others’ emotions can lead to failure on the job;
•Motivation:  A lack of sufficient drive to achieve one’s full potential and excel on the job;
•Temperament:  Attitude and personality are not conducive to a particular job and work environment; and
•Technical Competence:  The associate does not possess the technical or functional skills required to perform a specific job.

“There is nothing more important to ensuring your store’s reputation and success, and nothing more significant to your own professional reputation, than having a track record of getting the right people in the right positions to do the right things,”

If they arent working out get rid of em early. Just like the old saying, your first loss is your best loss. Don't keep them around to ruin your business!

If I can't get rid of them, I work them into a different dept. They may not do well in the meat dept but they may be a terrific cashier or produce clerk. I've worked in most every dept in a grocery/supermarket and in every instance the meat dept was the most labor intensive. Some people just aren't cut out for that amount of physical labor, some excel.

RE: Avoid bad hires

Iv'e gone though 5 youngsters in the shop , One woudn't get of his arse and sat outside the back smoking all the time, he went after only one day.
The next was a very religious boy kept on preaching to my customers and handing out religious booklets,he went after a good talking to.
Next was a girl of 18 ,keen ,clean and mean, she was too busy to turn up for work after a couple of days, she disappeared.
Then I took on an older guy "mister know it all" , he statred ok ,but stuck his nose into things that don't consern him,he left after the summer season.
I have always had my regular shop workers ,the ones that have been with me from the off you know the keepers so I gotta make sure nothing upsets them.
